Lyons Wier • Ortt Gallery, New York, is pleased to announce is Fresh, Chris Cosnowski’s second New York solo exhibition on view from November 14th – December 13th, 2008.

Still-life paintings of soap and figurines are the subject matter of Chris Cosnowski’s current work whose palette and structure pay homage to hard-edge painting and geometric abstraction.

With Fresh, Cosnowski has abandoned his previous schema of imbuing his compositions with symbolic or iconographic concerns, shifting to a repetitious subject matter that embraces the pure pleasure of painting. His works are embedded with a formalistic vocabulary that includes color, line, shape, texture, with brazen contemporary realism.

Cosnowski’s paintings can be embraced on many different levels heeding to abstract values while investigating linear concerns by way of representational subject matter. Coinciding with the theoretical and historical context of these limited palette compositions is the artist’s obsessive and meticulous painting ability. Each work emits its own encapsulated tension as Cosnowski’s deft renderings present photorealistic images that are visually hypnotic and beguiling.

Chris Cosnowski received his MFA from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1996. He currently lives and works in Chicago.
