Brooklyn Industries, an artist-owned design and apparel company, will open its first permanent contemporary art exhibition space, Brooklyn Industries Contemporary Art, with the exhibition Out of the Loop. The exhibition will feature video work by Vahap Avsar, Selim Birsel, Lexy Funk, Kate Gilmore, Noritoshi Hirakawa, and Nasan Tur.

Much of the work featured in Out of the Loop gives the viewer a sense of being caught in an infinite, repetitive loop, from which there is no escape. Oftentimes, the pieces seem to have no beginning or end. For example, Brooklyn-based artist Kate Gilmore's two-channel piece "Main Squeeze" in which the artist is shown squeezing herself through an ever-tightening tunnel, simultaneously approaching and fleeing the camera. The viewer is also constantly reminded of the fact that often, these hells are self-made. In Avsar's piece "Growing Watermelons in Gordion" we see the artist throwing watermelons in a river, only for them to be immediately fished out by his double, and added back to his original pile - a project never to be finished.
