As abstractions dealing with subtle gradations of color and saturation, Mike Nemire's painting is rooted in a Minimalist tradition exemplified by Gene Davis and Kenneth Noland. Yet, in the form and structure of these grids in his painting, Nemire also aptly references a contemporary shift in recording visual information marked by digital media, in particular photography. His paintings make visually palpable what can only be conceptualized-the idea of pixels, the common denominator for virtually recording a reality that bypasses the former process involving a physical imprint of light on film.
Nemire received a BFA from Ohio University in 2003 and an MFA from Pratt Institute in 2007. While his work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, this is his first solo show with the gallery. For more information, please contact the gallery.
