The cube is a fundamental and iconic form composed entirely of right angles - the epitome of simplicity and abstraction. Plato believed the cube was one of the five basic geometric shapes that composed the universe. As a standard in the urban landscape its commanding presence can be found in myriad forms - from the white cube of the gallery to the grids of city blocks, it is a shape that defines our surroundings. Its presence throughout history has stood as a challenge for artists to confront its formal integrity and make it their own. This exhibit examines some of these different interpretations and perspectives of the cube.
