Molly Smith’s second one-person exhibition at KS ART will include large-scale paintings on paper and three-dimensional works made of cast plaster and paint. The show’s title, between you and me, references the work’s physicality as well as its emotional resonance. Deploying an economy of means and gesture, Molly Smith’s (b. 1976) painting’s and objects combine an ephemeral materialism with uncanny whimsicality.

Smith's dream-like images can never quite be pinned down, with one foot in the door of the familiar, and one in the door of the unfamiliar. Image and abstraction collapse into poetic evocations of mystery: at once elegant and disturbing, Smith's work can be characterized as graceful, semantic slips--slipping traces of underworlds and undertows.
